Three-column concept

The anterior column contains the anterior longitudinal ligament, the anterior 2/3 of the vertebral body, and the anterior portion of the annulus fibrosus.

The middle column consists of the posterior longitudinal ligament, the posterior 1/3 of the vertebral body, and the posterior aspect of the annulus fibrosus.

The posterior column includes the neural arch, the ligamentum flavum, the facet capsules, and the interspinous ligaments
